CranioSacral for Babies

The birth of a baby may be one of the most stressful times of his/her life. During the birth process a baby's head is squeezed as it negotiates its way through the narrow birth canal. To allow the passage of the baby's head (specifically the cranium) through the pelvis, it is not a solid bony structure but a soft membranous balloon, designed to adapt to the rigorous pressure of the birth process.

Baby having TherapyIt is also very common to find a profound sense of shock held in the solar plexus of babies especially those born by caesarean section. Babies born by ventouse / forceps / vaginal breech and sometimes normal birthing associated with very long or rapid labours can have disturbances of the fine balancing of their CranioSacral pathways.

Babies are best treated when asleep, breast/bottle fed or being held, as these are the times they will be more relaxed and still, although they can be treated at other times. The Midwife therapist places her hands on the baby's head or other parts of the body that need treatment, and follows the twists and pulls of the CranioSacral system, to release restrictions and encourage fluid to flow through the body.

Reactions to the treatment are variable, often the baby or child is very relaxed afterwards and sleeps well.

Occasionally babies are unsettled. This is a temporary situation, and is usually caused when the release of the restricted area has been incomplete, as it is not always possible for all the restrictions to release in one session sometimes needing 2 or 3 to clear the congestion completely.
