This check is generally carried out prior to leaving the hospital. Either a specially qualified Midwife or a Peadiatric doctor conducts it. If you have a home delivery your GP may carry out this check.

However, to offer you additional reassurance we can carry out a thorough check of your newborn during a visit to The Midwifery Centre.

This will cover a head-to-toe examination. It helps to detect anomalies, birth injuries and cardio respiratory (heart and breathing) disorders that may compromise a newborn’s successful adaptation to extra uterine life.

No guarantee can be made that any or all problems may be identified. Should any anomalies that have not previously been detected a referral to a Doctor will be made directly.

This is a routine examination does not replace the care of your own GP if you be worried regarding the health of your baby.
