The growing uterus places additional stress on the spine and pelvis due to the changes in the pregnant body’s centre of gravity. Commonly these postural changes result in the classic pregnancy-related ailments like lower-backache. With the added complication of the joint laxity (looseness) from the hormonal changes that occur during pregnancy (relaxin), the postural imbalances can lead to other forms of discomfort such as symphasis pubis disorder (SPD).

With a careful approach and attention to detail, these symptoms can be minimised, and even prevented by strengthening the muscles that we know are vulnerable to the postural changes. This limits the stress on the joints of the spine and pelvis, resulting on fewer aches and pains.

This class will focus on the muscles of the abdomen, back, and pelvis to help maintain good posture and to help condition the body for labour (and to assist in the recovery process). The exercises will be generally floor (mat) based, with some of exercise balls and resistance tubes (all provided). You will also learn to become more ware of your day-to-day posture, and also learn how to implement an exercise regime into your pregnancy with professional support and advice form your instructor.
