What is a Maternity Nurse?
Maternity Nurse (sometimes referred to as a Maternity Nanny), usually
works 5 or 6 days a week on call for 24 hours a day in the parents' home
on arrival of the new baby.
They are equally responsible for both the newborn baby and postnatal mother. They are not working in any medical capacity but are suitably experienced/qualified to aid and advise new parents with their newborn. A Maternity Nurse is likely to be involved in feeding, bathing, changing and settling baby to sleep and also in supporting mum in a general capacity, but who also may be breastfeeding, have had a caesarean or who unfortunately may be ill following delivery including mums with post natal depression.
What is a au-pair?
An 'au pair' is a single person without dependants. Legally, an au pair
must be between 17 and 27 years of age but many families prefer an au
pair of 18 years of age or older.
The usual length of time for an au pair to stay in this country is 6-12 months and the most popular times for coming over are January, June and September.
An au pair works a 5-hour day plus up to 2 evenings a week baby-sitting and has two complete days free each week. He/she should be given time off either in the morning or afternoon to attend English classes or relax and will normally have 5 evenings free each week.
We can introduce you to nannies and maternity nurses. We do not enter into your partnership arrangements. As stated before, we are like a library and a signposting facility.
Nannies have their own recognised qualifications, networks, codes of ethics and support, although we are very happy to work alongside them.
Generally a Nanny will charge somewhere in the region of £250 - £400 per week living in or out from the employers.
Maternity Nurses Salary starts from £80.00 + for a 24 hour period.
