Sue Tunnacliffe and Gill Thomson are the directors of;The Midwifery Centre; and have successfully been working within the NHS setting up extra enhanced antenatal and postnatal care, within an area of deprivation, which went onto become total care including intra partum deliveries.
They have seen some wonderful results from this enhanced care and recognise that women and their families would love to have the opportunity to have more midwifery care at this very vulnerable time in their lives.
Having developed this successful service, they have decided to start our own independent midwifery service. As independent midwives they are autonomous practitioners, who have chosen to work outside of but in conjunction with the NHS. The Nursing and Midwifery Council, Midwives Rules, Midwife Code of Practice and Code of Professional Conduct govern their clinical practice.
So The Midwifery Centre has been created. It offers a specialist antenatal and postnatal service to pregnant women and their families, and one that will hopefully develop and expand over the whole country.
They are just two of many midwives who wish to work in this way and have colleagues joining this venture. Our team of Midwives have the abilities and expertise to extend our roles from antenatal/postnatal care, right through to practicing alternative therapies and group work, all within the tranquil setting of our centre in Hare Hatch, Berkshire.
We hope to become midwives to women and their families from all over Buckinghamshire and Berkshire. We have no demarcations lines and are happy to see anyone who wishes to opt into our enhanced service.
We will be working in partnership with the NHS and our clients will still be booked to have their babies at their local hospital and will still access their General Practitioner and Community midwife. We are in addition not instead of your existing care providers.
As midwives we are experts in normal pregnancy, birth and postnatally. However if there is a deviation from normal we will immediately refer you back to your GP or maternity booked hospital for their medical opinion.
